Domain Finder Service

We have a diverse pool of resources available to help you find a quality domain name for your website.

Currently there are about 10 million "dot-com" domain names registered, and registrar Network Solutions reports that new domain names are registered at the rate of one every five seconds. If you've tried searching for an available domain name for your new website, you know that even an obscure name can be next-to-impossible to find. A good dot-com domain name is now considered by many to be a commodity, and the best of these names are being resold for thousands and even millions of dollars.

As developing websites is our business, at CompuNet Services we're very aware of the scarcity of good domain names. We originally developed our domain finder service to help website design clients find a useful domain name for their new site, but we're now making this service available to everyone.

How It Works
Like buried treasure, good domains names are available for the taking—you just have to know where to look. Through considerable hours of research, trial-and-error, and networking with other developers, we have come up with a program that combines numerous resources to consistently produce available—and useable—domain names.

The first step in searching for a domain name is to determine a primary "keyword"; this keyword is usually the product that a client is selling ("books", for example). We then take that keyword and apply the following processes:

•

SEARCH
Using a software application designed in-house, we combine the client's keyword with a list of over 100 words that are appropriate to the purpose of the website. For example, if you're planning to sell coffee online, we'll combine the keyword "coffee" with "store", "shop", etc., to come up with "coffeestore.com", "coffeeshop.com", etc. The resulting list is then checked against an up-to-date database of domain names to produce a list of what's available.

•  ABANDONED DOMAIN NAME SEARCH
A domain name is registered for a period of 1 to 10 years, and must be renewed at the end of the registration period; if it's not, the domain becomes available again for anyone to register. We have a database of over 2.5 million abandoned domain names that are free for registration. The database updated on a regular basis.

Our domain finder service is priced at only R20.00. We search for "dot com" domain names only (other extensions like "dot org" and international domain extensions are not available in this service). We guarantee we will be able to deliver at least ten available domain names that are appropriate to your website's purpose or we will refund your money. This service takes 1–2 business days for delivery.

What If I Still Can't Find A Name?

If you've searched for a domain name for your website but just can't seem to find anything, the creative team at CompuNet Services can help. Selecting a good domain name is extremely important; although we often think of a website as a marketing tool, the domain name itself is a marketing tool as well. It can differentiate you from the competition, and "pre-communicate" your website's message to clients.

When "designing" domain names, we consider many factors; the name should be memorable, should sound good and make sense, and for practical purposes should be as short as possible. We strive to deliver names that are distinctive, flexible, and "brand-able."

Our domain name creative service is priced at R200.00. We will deliver 3 domain names for you to choose from. It usually takes about 5 business days for delivery.

General Domain Name Q&A

•

The domain name I want is not available with a ".com" extension, but is available with a ".net" extension. Should I use that instead?
".net" extensions were originally intended for network-related websites (website hosting for example), though there is no official policy enforcing this, and it's possible to register any type of website with a ".net" domain extension. However, e-commerce websites are ubiquitously associated with the ".com" extension, so we very strongly recommend ".com" extensions for our clients' websites.
•  Is it possible to get more than one domain name for one website?
Yes, however it depends on the company that is hosting your website as to whether they allow it. Our hosting division,  lets you have several domain names all pointing to the same website (setup fees apply).
•  Can you register my domain name for me?
We will gladly register a domain name on behalf of our clients. We are affiliated with Dotster, an ICANN accredited registrar. Registrations through Dotster are a very-low $15 per year.

Purchasing Domain Names

•

The domain name I want for my website is being offered for sale. Is it a good idea to purchase a domain name, or should I try and find an available one?
It depends on a number of factors, including what business you're in and what your total budget is for your online endeavor. If you'll be selling music online, you're going to have a difficult time finding an suitable e-commerce domain name with "music" in it. If you can find a good domain name at a reasonable price, it may cost you far less to purchase a domain name than to try to "brand" a name that is unrelated to the business you're in (like Amazon.com, for example).
•  Can you negotiate the sale of a domain name for me?
Yes. Our domain name experts will research the value of a domain name based on historical sales of comparable names, contact the seller, and attempt to get the best price for the name. Our negotiation fee is a flat R50.00
•  I've noticed that you sell domain names. May I list my domain name for sale on your site?
Possibly, depending on the quality of the domain name and the asking price. E-mail compunet@wam.co.za for more information.
